Chris Waltho- Field Surveyor
A well known Scottish ornithologist with nearly 40 years fieldwork experience, Chris was a recent President of the Scottish Ornithologists' Club. He has been coordinating a long-term research and monitoring programme for eider, presenting papers on it at international conferences in Edinburgh, Estonia, Russia and France.
He coordinated the monitoring of the capercaillie population in the Loch Lomond SPA during the 1990s. He has undertaken contract monitoring of Whooper Swan, Sand Martin and woodland & wetland censuses for NCC/SNH, as well as aerial surveys for divers and sea duck for JNCC. He has considerable experience in WeBS (38 years), CBC, atlas, seabirds, seawatching and ESAS surveys and habitat surveying.
Chris was a contributor to The Birds of Scotland, and Waterbirds around the World, IWC results (Western Palaearctic and Southwest Asia 2000-2005). He is amember of IUCN/SSC Seaduck (Duck) Specialist Group, British Ornithologists Union, European Ornithologists Union and American Ornithologists Union.
